THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: A broken spirit dries up the bones.
I once heard the story of a nurse who had blood cell cancer. She consulted a Christian haematologist, a specialist in blood diseases, for remedy. Surprisingly, the haematologist asked her, ‘Is there anyone who offended you so much that you are bitter against?’ And she opened up about her being bitter against her father because when she was a child, her mother was sick and her father sent her to call the village doctor but before she could return, her mother had died. No one explained anything to her but what she saw next was her mother being carried into a box (coffin).
The question in her little mind was, ‘Why is daddy suffocating mummy?’ Before she could recover from that, her mother was buried. Afterwards, her father married another wife who began to maltreat her. That bitterness remained in her heart until adulthood and later manifested physically as blood cell cancer.
Now, the blood is made from bone marrow, and the Bible says that a broken spirit dries up the bones (Proverbs 17:22). That means when the spirit is broken by bitterness,”the bone, and by extension, the blood can dry up or get afflicted.
The doctor talked her into forgiving her father, and immediately she forgave, within six weeks, every trace of cancer disappeared. All she needed to do was to release forgiveness and receive her healing.
Beloved, bitterness is a root that develops into some undesirable fruits and the fruits are afflictions, diseases, troubles, and torments (Hebrews 12:15, Matthew 18:28-34). Maybe you are bitter against someone, release forgiveness and you will receive healing and peace on every side.
Remember this: A broken spirit dries up the bones.
