The teaser for Lecrae’s ‘Church Clothes 4’ album is yet another example of the GRAMMY-winning rapper’s endearing self-awareness. Staged as a faux podcast interview, the entire concept pokes fun at Lecrae’s faith-based rap. “The truth is, you can’t have the righteous without the ratchet,” he proclaims at one point. Truth is, the Houston dude’s never been afraid to look deep within. His 2020 album ‘Restoration’ explored personal identity, specifically ruminating on things that obscure one’s true self. Standout track “Self Discovery” linked the impact of the slave trade on his African ancestors to the insidious fallout of a non-relationship with his own father. The last time we worked with Lecrae was for a special Ctrl.At.Home session shot in Atlanta at the National Center for Civil and Human Rights.
